ThisstandardspecifiesacombinedmethodfortheenumerationofpresumptiveEscherichiacoliandofpresumptivecoliformsbymeansofaculturetechniqueinvolvingaliquidmediumwithMUG,andcalculationofthenumberofpresumptiveEscherichiacoliand/orcoliformspergramorpermillilitrebythemostprobablenumber(MPN)techniqueafterincubationat30??C.
Themethodisapplicabletomilk,liquidmilkproducts,driedmilk,driedsweetwhey,driedbuttermilk,lactose,acidcasein,lacticcaseinandrennetcasein,caseinateanddriedacidwhey,cheeseandprocessedcheese,butter,frozenmilkproducts(includingedibleices),andcustard,dessertsandcream.
ThemethodspecifiedinthisstandardispreferredforsamplesinwhichcomparativelylownumbersofpresumptiveEscherichiacoliand/orotherpresumptivecoliforms(lessthan100pergramor10permillilitre)aresuspected.
