Thisstandarddescribesaroutineprocedurefortheevaluationofresultsoftheenumerationofmicroorganismsusingcolony-countmethodswithsubsequent10-folddilutionstepsandoneplateortwoparallelplateswithineachdilutionstep.
Thisroutineprocedureisappliedregularlyineachlaboratoryperformingcolonycounts.Itprovidescriteriafortheacceptabilityofdifferencesbetweentheresultsfromparallelplatesandsubsequentdilutionsteps,asfollows.
Theresults(colonycounts)obtainedfromparallelplatesarecomparedwithtabulatedlimitsforgivencolonycounts.Iftheselimitsareexceeded,atechnicalproblemwhenperformingtheparalleldeterminationsmaybeindicated.
Theresults(sumsofcolonycounts)oftwoparallelplatesoftwosubsequent10-folddilutionstepsarecomparedwithtabulatedlimitsforgivensumsofcolonycounts.Iftheselimitsareexceeded,atechnicalproblemwhenperformingthedilutionsmaybeindicated.
Ifthelimitsmentionedaboveareexceededinmorecasesthanexpected,thisindicatesthatthetestprocedurelacksreliability.
